McKnight Snags Number Forty-Eight
Cody Lewis
The Tutshill Tornados’ claim to the League Cup was a forgone conclusion heading into their final match against the Holyhead Harpies – they would, at worst, finish two games ahead of second place Puddlemere United. Still, the job was not yet finished for Tornados Seeker Scarlett McKnight.
Last year, McKnight became a member of the “24 Snitch Club” with twenty-four Snitch catches in as many matches. She joins the likes of legendary Seeker Eunice Murray, Maximus Brankovitch III, and more recently, Eurig Cadwallader, as well as only a handful of other greats who have achieved the feat over the years.
Nobody, however, had ever joined the “48 Snitch Club.” Not a single Seeker had ever recorded back-to-back perfect seasons. McKnight was heavily favored to catch the Snitch over Harpies Seeker Bridget Gage, but something about catching forty-eight straight seemed unachievable. Many theorized that the Tornados would, as the Muggles say, “phone it in” with the League Cup secured. Holyhead gaining a huge lead through Quaffle did nothing to quell these doubts.
McKnight ultimately overcame the barrage of Bludgers left undefllected by her own lackadaisical Beaters and Krummed for the sixth time this season, catching the Snitch but ending the match with a loss. Just as Viktor Krum had done during the 1994 Quidditch World Cup final, McKnight ended things on her own terms – as the sole member of the 48 Snitch Club.
