The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

As soon as the ad for this show popped up in my newsfeed, I knew I would end up watching it. D2: The Mighty Ducks is Cody's childhood favorite movie. We have watched The Mighty Ducks trilogy together. Additionally, the female lead in the new television series is Lauren Graham. My sister ends up watching everything with Lauren Graham in it since she is a huge Gilmore Girls fan.
Taking place decades after The Mighty Ducks trilogy, the Mighty Ducks youth hockey team is now the winningest hockey program in Minnesota. The team is highly selective and getting a spot on the Mighty Ducks roster is extremely competitive.
After Evan Morrow is cut from the Mighty Ducks, his mother Alex Morrow (Lauren Graham) helps him start a new team so he can continue to play hockey. They name the team the 'Don't Bothers' because of a comment made by the coach of the Mighty Ducks.
With the help of his neighbor Nick, Evan is able to recruit enough players to field a team. They come from all different backgrounds and barely even know each other, despite attending the same school. The majority of the Don't Bothers have no hockey experience, but they are all eager to learn.
While running an errand for work, Alex finds an old ice rink called the Ice Palace for the Don't Bothers to use for practice. She discovers that the Ice Palace is run by none other than Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez), the coach of the original Mighty Ducks! For several reasons, Bombay has shut hockey out of his life, but agrees to let the Don't Bothers use the rink because he needs the money.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is definitely fun to watch. The show is very positive and uplifting. It conveys important messages about being true to oneself, friendship, the importance of having fun, playing as a team, and more. There are quite a few references to the movie trilogy, but those new to the franchise will still be able to appreciate the series. It was especially exciting to see some of the original Mighty Ducks make a cameo in one episode.
Nearly all the players on the Don't Bothers have their own storyline in this first season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, but there are some that still need to be further developed. Hopefully that means that there is more to come!
